This annual symposium, now hybrid, is designed for all those interested in learning about the latest breakthroughs in research and treatment in autism spectrum disorder (ASD), including health care providers, teachers, autism service providers, and families. Nationally renowned UCLA Center for Autism Research and Treatment (CART) faculty and guest speakers will present the most up-to-date information about ASD. Pre-recorded talks on-demand will be available for viewing two weeks before the live event. The theme of this year’s symposium is “Co-occurring Conditions and Mental Health for Autism Spectrum Disorder” and the symposium will cover topics such as a self-advocate’s perspective on bringing visibility to the invisible of ASD, young adult employment and mental health, a genetic perspective for co-occurring sleep and neurodevelopmental disorders, sensory and anxiety in ASD, parent mental health and mindfulness in early intervention, and medical causes of challenging behaviors for autistic individuals.
On Friday, April 28, 2023, a live discussion will be presented along with a Question and Answer session with the featured speakers. Participants will be able to submit questions while viewing the pre-recorded talks before the event through this website as well as during the day of the live event. To qualify for the 7.5 CME credits for participation in this activity, participants will be required to attend the April 28 live event.

DISCLOSURES
The FDA has issued a concept paper that classifies commercial support of scientific and educational programs as promotional unless it can be affirmed that the program is “truly independent” and free of commercial influence. In addition to independence, the FDA requires that non-promotional, commercially supported education be objective, balanced, and scientifically rigorous. The policy further states that all potential conflicts of interest of the CME staff and faculty be fully disclosed to the program’s participants. In addition, Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education policy mandates that the sponsor adequately manage all identified potential conflicts of interest prior to the program. We, at UCLA, fully endorse the letter and spirit of these concepts.
